June 2013
Times Square and World Trade Center Memorial

The crowds and bright lights of Times Square at night aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I find the place fascinating. On our last evening, we hung out and watched an artwork called "Surfacing", which involved video of a variety of people emerging from the subway, with the images appearing on a number of the big displays around the square. We were constantly turning our heads, trying to spot all of the screens that were involved...and it was also interesting to observe which people passing through the square noticed that something unusual was happening on the displays and which remained completely oblivious.

We visited the World Trade Center site on the last day of our visit, a rainy morning. The site contains a plaza that we explored, several new office buildings going up nearby, and a new museum (still under construction) that will educate visitors about the events that happened there.
