Settling in Ohio
The morning after Miripalooza, Miri and I set out bright and early (6:00 a.m.!) for the 12-hour drive to Bowling Green with her cat, Russell, and her car packed full of her belongings. The next day, the movers arrived with the rest of her stuff, which had been in storage since June, and there was only one item damaged in transit: her old desk. We replaced it later that day with a nice used desk - which we dismantled in the parking lot in order to cram it into her car so that we could take it back to her apartment. It took a little manuevering (including Miriam climbing into the back seat to pull the frame in after her), but we made it!
During the rest of the week, when Miriam wasn't busy with new-faculty orientation meetings, we got her cable and Internet service installed, arranged furniture, and shopped for many of the items, large and small (new couches, end tables, curtains) that she needed.
My week-long visit was over too quickly - I look forward to going to see her again soon!
